A new research group has joined Alternet, becoming its second Spanish institute and bringing the total number of Alternet member institutes to 33. GESBIO (Grupo de investigación en educación y gestión de la biodiversidad), a research group from the University of Cordoba (Spain), joined Alternet following the participation of one of its researchers in the 2025 Alternet Summer School.

The GESBIO research group focuses on a variety of biodiversity-related topics, including the assessment and monitoring of animal species and ecosystems, the management of biodiversity in agricultural and other modified landscapes, the integration of biodiversity into sustainable development policies and strategies, the need for human connection with nature, and the adoption of pro-environmental behaviors.

GESBIO researchers have worked on numerous projects in Europe and Latin America, collaborating with organizations and researchers in the field of biodiversity and sustainable education. Some of their current and recent projects include biodiversity monitoring using camera traps, the application of citizen science to conservation and biodiversity research in educational settings, and the integration of biodiversity into sustainable agriculture.

The GESBIO research team is multidisciplinary and comprised of experts in diverse fields, including animal biology, agronomy, ecology, education, psychology, and environmental planning.

We are proud to welcome GESBIO into the Alternet community!
